About URL Encoder
URLs can only safely contain a limited set of characters — letters, digits, and a handful of punctuation marks — because characters like spaces, &, ?, and # have structural meaning in a URL, separating query parameters or marking a fragment. Percent-encoding replaces any character outside that safe set with a % followed by its byte value in hexadecimal, so a space becomes %20 and an ampersand becomes %26, for example.
This matters whenever user-supplied or otherwise unpredictable text needs to be inserted into a query string, a path segment, or a form submission — a search query containing spaces or punctuation, an email address used as a parameter, or text with non-Latin characters. Encoding it first guarantees the URL stays valid and that the receiving server parses parameter boundaries correctly instead of getting confused by an unencoded &, =, or #.
This tool uses the same encoding as JavaScript's encodeURIComponent, which is meant for encoding an individual value like one query parameter, not an entire URL — it will also encode characters like / and : that are meant to remain literal in a full URL's structure.
