About EMI Calculator

EMI is calculated with the same amortization formula used for any fixed-rate loan: EMI = P × r(1+r)^n / ((1+r)^n − 1), where P is the principal, r is the monthly interest rate, and n is the tenure in months. Expressing tenure in months rather than years is the convention for EMI-based loans such as home, auto and personal loans, particularly common terminology in India and other South Asian markets.

Seeing the principal-versus-interest split across the full tenure is useful before signing a loan agreement — it shows the real cost of borrowing rather than just the monthly figure, and makes it easier to compare offers from different lenders or check that a monthly EMI fits comfortably against income.

The calculation assumes the interest rate stays fixed for the entire tenure. Many EMI loans, especially floating-rate home loans, have rates that change periodically, which changes the actual EMI or remaining tenure part-way through. Processing fees and prepayment charges some lenders apply also aren't included here.
