About Energy Converter
Energy shows up under very different names depending on the field: joules in physics (the SI unit), calories in nutrition, kilowatt-hours on an electricity bill, and BTUs in heating and cooling equipment. They all measure the same underlying quantity and convert through fixed factors — one kilowatt-hour, for instance, is exactly 3.6 million joules.
A common point of confusion is the food 'Calorie': the Calorie (capital C) printed on nutrition labels is actually a kilocalorie, equal to 1,000 of the small calories used in chemistry, so a label listing '200 Calories' represents 200,000 of the smaller unit.
Reach for this converter when comparing an appliance's energy use in kWh against a fuel's energy content in joules or BTU, sizing an air conditioner or heater rated in BTU per hour, or translating a food energy value into a unit used elsewhere.
