About Volume Converter
Volume conversions here move between the metric system (liters and milliliters) and US customary units — gallons, quarts, pints, cups, and fluid ounces. Unlike length or weight, US customary volume units are not the same as their same-named UK imperial counterparts: a US gallon (about 3.785 liters) is smaller than an imperial gallon (about 4.546 liters), so a recipe or fuel figure from a UK source won't match a US conversion of the same word.
This tool is useful for scaling recipes between metric and US measurements, checking fuel economy or tank capacity figures, and converting cooking measurements like cups and tablespoons that many packaged-food labels list only in milliliters.
Fluid ounces are a measure of volume, not weight — a fluid ounce of honey and a fluid ounce of water occupy the same space but weigh differently, since only water at a specific temperature makes those two ounce definitions line up.
