About Image Resizer
Resizing rebuilds an image at a new pixel grid using the smoothing the browser's Canvas API applies automatically when it draws the source image at a different size, estimating new pixel values from the surrounding originals. Scaling down generally looks clean because multiple source pixels are averaged into one, which naturally smooths noise. Scaling up is riskier: the browser has to invent pixel values that were never captured, so enlarging a small image much beyond its native resolution produces visible softness or blur no resizer can fully avoid.
The aspect ratio lock exists because width and height are mathematically linked to the original proportions. Unlocking it lets you set both values independently, which is useful when a layout demands an exact box size, but it will stretch or squash the image if the new ratio doesn't match the original — faces and straight lines make this distortion obvious quickly.
Common reasons to resize include meeting a platform's upload dimensions (social media banners, marketplace listings, avatar sizes), reducing file size for faster page loads since fewer pixels means less data to encode, and preparing a consistent set of image dimensions for a gallery or product grid.
