About Merge PDF
A PDF page isn't a flat image — it's a set of objects (a content stream, fonts, embedded images) referenced from a page tree and a cross-reference table. Merging works by copying those page objects, along with everything they depend on, out of each source file and rebuilding a single page tree and cross-reference table around them. Because pages are copied rather than redrawn, text stays selectable, fonts stay embedded, and image resolution is untouched — the operation is closer to filing pages into one binder than re-printing them.
This makes merging useful anywhere you'd otherwise staple documents together: combining scanned receipts before submitting an expense report, assembling a contract with its exhibits, or putting several invoices into one attachment. The order you arrange the files in before clicking Merge is the order they'll appear in the output, so it's worth double-checking the sequence first.
One thing merging doesn't reconcile is document-level metadata and internal navigation — the combined file takes on a fresh set of properties, and any links or a table of contents that pointed to a specific page in one of the original files can end up pointing at the wrong page once everything is renumbered into a single sequence.
