Split PDF

Splitting reads a PDF's page tree and, for each page in turn, builds a brand-new single-page document containing just that page's content stream and the resources (fonts, images) it references. No page is rasterized in the process — a text page stays selectable text, and an image page keeps its original resolution — so the operation is really a repackaging of existing objects rather than a conversion.

This is the tool to reach for when a multi-page fax, scanned form, or exported report needs to become a set of standalone files — for example, splitting a batch-scanned stack of single-page forms back into individual documents, or breaking a long report into per-chapter files for separate distribution. If you only need a handful of pages pulled out rather than every page separated, Extract PDF Pages is the more direct route.

Because each output file is now independent, anything that depended on the pages sharing one document — a table of contents linking to a later page, or running page numbers printed across the original — no longer functions the way it did; each split file effectively starts fresh.
