About Multiple File Renamer

Batch renaming works by applying a set of rules to every filename in the upload at once: a prefix or suffix gets added to each name, a find-and-replace swaps out a substring across the whole batch, and sequential numbering appends an incrementing count — with optional zero-padding — so files sort in a predictable order. Rules can be layered, so you might strip a camera's default 'IMG_' prefix, replace underscores with hyphens, and add a running number in the same pass.

This kind of cleanup comes up after dumping photos off a phone or camera, preparing a batch of files for upload to a system that expects consistent naming, or tidying up years of inconsistently named documents in one folder.

Browsers can't write changes back to files on your device directly — a web page has no permission to reach into your file system and rename something in place — so the renamed copies are packaged into a ZIP you download separately, leaving your original files untouched.

Browser security sandboxing prevents a web page from writing changes back to files on your device, so renamed copies are packaged into a ZIP archive for you to download instead.
